Tierce, Gywnne finalists for PEN awards

Merritt Tierce of Dallas is a finalist for the $25,000 PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction for her novel “Love Me Back.” She joins Molly Antopol for “The UnAmericans,” Cynthia Bond for “Ruby,” “Redeployment” by Phil Klay and Jack Livings for “The Dog.”

S.C. Gwynne, the Austin writer and former Texas Monthly staff who shot to fame with “Empire of the Summer Moon,” has been named a shortlist finalist for the $5,000 PEN/Jacqueline Bogard Weld Award for Biography for his biography of Stonewall Jackson, “Rebel Yell.” Other finalists are Jeff Hobbs for “The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace,” Charles Marsh for “Strange Glory,” Anna Whitelock for “The Queen’s Bed” and Larry Witham for “Piero’s Light.”
